CanPowerSkate Program

CanPowerSkate is an action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette skaters with a focus on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. Groupings are based upon skill levels:

  • Pre-CanPowerSkate: Developing basic skating skills (CanSkate Stage 4 entry);
  • CanPowerSkate Levels 1 to 3: developing and improving fundamentals of skating;
  • CanPowerSkate Levels 4 to 6: acquisition of efficient technique, speed, agility, technical aspects of stride and acceleration and skating with the puck/ring.

Pre-CanPowerSkate

No sticks or pucks
Hockey 1,2,3,4 – Ages 5 to 8

 

The Program develops basic skating skills in a power skating-specific environment, including balance, forward and backward skating, stopping, turning and agility.

CanPowerSkate Levels 1-3

Full hockey gear
Hockey 3,4 – Ages 6 to 8

 

The program focuses on the development of CORRECT skating skills – backwards, forwards (both directions), pivots, stops (backwards, forwards), crossovers (forwards, backwards, both directions).

The emphasis is on correcting and improving technique in smaller groups and on an individual basis as required. The full surface of the ice will be utilized for a cardio component.

CanPowerSkate Levels 4-6

Full hockey gear
Atom, Pee Wee – Ages 9-12

 

The focus of this program is to ensure proper skating technique – backwards, forwards (both directions), quick stops (backwards, forwards), pivot turns, quick changes in direction, lateral movement and cardio conditioning.

There will be a continued emphasis on individual technical correction as required, in order to maximize stride and power on a full sheet of ice and in game situations.

CanPowerSkate – Rep Players

Full hockey gear
Atom, Pee Wee – Ages 10-13

 

Participants are expected to be good skaters and should be playing on a rep team. Emphasis will be on development of speed, endurance, power.

There will be a continued emphasis on individual technical correction as required, in order to maximize stride and power on a full sheet of ice and in game situations.
