Lorna Bauer – Vancouver Skating Club

Sport Science Director
NCCP Certified Level 3, partial 4

Lorna has 23 years experience coaching and combines her personal experience in the sport with the knowledge she gained as part of getting her Bachelors in Applied Science – Kinesiology and her Professional Teacher’s Certificate (high school). With this background she had originally planned to become a school teacher but in 1987 was hired by the Vancouver Skating Club; she loved coaching so much that it has become her full time passion and career.

As a triple Gold Medalist, Lorna was coached by World and Olympic Coach Linda Brauckmann and was also a performer with Canada Ice Dance Theatre. Her skating skills run deep in the family. Her sister Susan Humphreys was the 1997 Senior Ladies Canadian Champion and competed at the World and Olympic level.

Having watched her sister for so many years has given Lorna special insight into the development of the whole athlete from the very early stages to the top level. It is important to her that all of her students are able to fulfill their own personal potential, and to develop the skills necessary to be successful in other aspects of their lives. She has used this experience to develop her students, which range from recreational to National Champions and International Competitors.

In addition to her sports achievements Lorna has her Grade IX Royal Conservatory of Music, and Grade 3 History and Harmony and is an Ironman Canada Triathlon finisher.
